When something goes wrong in DeoVR, the fastest way for us to find the cause is a log. A log is a plain text file that records what the app was doing at the moment the problem happened.
Your headset can't create this file on its own. You need to connect it to a computer (Windows or Mac) with a cable, and use a free tool to capture the log while the problem happens. This guide walks you through both options.
Turn on Developer Mode (you do this once)
Developer Mode lets the headset talk to your computer. It's a standard Meta setting, it's free, and it changes nothing about how the headset works day to day.
On your phone, open the Meta Horizon app.
Tap: Devices → your headset → Headset Settings → Developer Mode, and turn it ON.
Then restart the headset.
Install the program on the computer
Install Meta Quest Developer Hub (Windows, Mac). It's free and comes directly from Meta's website. This is the tool that will read and save the log. Launch the app.
Connect the headset to the computer
Use the headset's own charging cable. Plug the USB-C end into the headset and the other end into the computer.
Say yes inside the headset
Put the headset on. A message appears asking "Allow USB debugging?"
Tick "Always allow", then press "Allow".
This step is easy to miss because it only shows up inside the headset. If you don't press Allow, the computer won't see the headset and nothing else in this guide will work.
Open the log window
Open Meta Quest Developer Hub on the computer. Your headset appears in the list. Click "Device Logs" in the menu.
Type one word into the filter box
At the top of the log window there is a filter box or a search box. Type this one word into it: Unity
The headset produces thousands of system messages that have nothing to do with DeoVR. This filter hides all of them and leaves only DeoVR's own messages, which is exactly what we need. This is the only thing you ever have to type.
Record the problem
- Press "Start" (or "Record").
- Put the headset on.
- Do the thing that goes wrong in DeoVR.
- Take the headset off.
- Press "Stop".
Keep it short. Half a minute around the problem helps us more than an hour of everything else - a shorter log means we find the cause faster.
Save the file and send it to the support team
Click "Save" or "Export". You get a .txt file, normally in your Downloads folder — the window shows you exactly where it was saved.
Attach that file to your message to us.
About the file: it's plain text, usually a few MB, and contains nothing but DeoVR's own messages — no personal data, no account details, no video history.
Too big to email? Upload it to Google Drive, Dropbox or WeTransfer and send us the link instead.
